Bringing self-charging full hybrid powertrain technology to the Mazda model range, the Mazda2 Hybrid is the outcome of a long-standing collaboration between Mazda Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation. The two companies entered a long term partnership in 2015. Since then they jointly develop technologies for electric vehicles, connected-car technology, collaborated on advanced safety technologies, and expanded complimentary products.
The self-charging Mazda2 Hybrid is the perfect car for city life: with its expressive lines, attractive proportions, and compact size, it feels right at home in an urban setting - while remaining ready for any outer-city adventure.
Its design continues to reflect Mazda's signature Kodo philosophy, combining simplicity and vitality with a sense of craftsmanship. The distinctive front design, together with a unique rear developed in Mazda's European Design Studio, creates a sporty yet elegant appearance. The overall form expresses a balance of dynamism and stability, showcasing the craftsperson's skill behind every surface.
For the 2026 model year, the Mazda2 Hybrid further refines this design approach with subtle yet effective updates. New exterior colours - Charcoal Grey, Sky Grey and Fern Green - enhance its visual presence, while selected grades benefit from updated interior finishes, including refined gloss black design accents that strengthen the model's modern and premium character.
At the same time, the 2026 Mazda2 Hybrid further enhances its appeal with expanded standard equipment and targeted upgrades across all trim levels. Even the entry grade now offers a more comprehensive specification, including features such as heated front seats, a height-adjustable passenger seat, rear power windows, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and an upgraded four-speaker audio system.
A new Driver Monitoring System has also been introduced across the range, while higher grades benefit from further enhancements, including full LED lighting and new interior design accents in glossy black, while the top version offers features such as a head-up display and panoramic glass roof. The range is also complemented by three new exterior colours: Charcoal Grey, Sky Grey and Fern Green, further strengthening its visual appeal.
The Mazda2 Hybrid features cutting-edge intelligent hybrid technology which seamlessly transitions between electric, petrol and combined driving modes, delivering an agile and enjoyable driving experience in any situation. The compact car combines a 1490 cm³, 92 PS/68 kW three-cylinder petrol engine with a 59 kW electric motor, deliveringa total system power of 116 PS/85 kW. The 2026 Mazda2 Hybrid accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 9.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 175 km/h. It returns WLTP combined cycle fuel economy of 3.7-4.2l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 85-96 g/km (depending on grade).
The Mazda2 Hybrid is a significant model for Mazda in Europe. The company is convinced thatoffering a full range of sustainable technologies - from battery-electric vehicles andhybrids to plug-in hybrids and rotary engine-based range extenders - a multi-solution strategy is the most efficient and effective way to reduce emissions.
With this multi-solution strategy, Mazda aims to meet the European CO2 emission targets through to 2030 and beyond. Mazda will continue to accelerate electrification across its model range, with plans to offer fully electric vehicles in key European segments by 2030. At 3,940 mm long, 1,745 mm wide and 1,500 mm high, the 2026 Mazda2 Hybrid is one of the most compact vehicles in the B-segment. Its small footprint, short front and rear overhangs, and tight, class-leading 4.9 metre turning circle make it equally at home in congested city streets and on the open road.
The front design follows Mazda's Kodo philosophy, expressing a balance of elegance, vitality and simplicity. The signature five-point-grille is flanked by sharply styled projecting headlamp units that extend into the front wings, visually reducing the front overhang and reinforcing the car's dynamic stance. The LED headlights integrate daytime running lights that also function as turn indicators, contributing to a clean and technically refined appearance.
Below, sculpted air inlets and carefully shaped lower bumper create a wider and more stable visual presence, while surface detailing adds depth and character to the lower sections. Subtle patterning within the grille and surrounding elements takes inspiration from Mazda design studies such as the Mazda Kai Concept, introducing a refined layer of visual texture without compromising the overall sense of simplicity.
In profile, the pronounced front and rear wheel acrhes, together with the sculpted door panels and multi-spoke 15- to 17-inch wheels, convey a sense of compact dynamism. The reward positioning of the A-pillars further enhances the impression of forward motion, while maintaining a feeling of stability and balance.
Designed in close cooperation between Mazda's European Design Studio and its headquarters in Japan, the rear design is clean, refined and distinctly Mazda. A body-coloured garnish spans the width of the vehicle beneath the integrated roof spoiler, visually connecting the LED rear lights and emphasising the car's wide, planted stance. The lower black bumper adds contrast and further strengthens the dynamic appearance.
The 2026 Mazda2 Hybrid is available in eight exterior colours: Lunar White, Northern White Pearl, Opera Black, Formal Red, Glass Blue, as well as the three new colours Charcoal Grey, Sky Grey and Fern Green.
Door mirror housings and the shark fin antenna are finished in body colour, while Homura and Homura Plus grades feature black mirror caps, adding a more distinctive and sporty accent.
The 2026 Mazda2 Hybrid is available throughout Europe in a choice of five grades: Prime-Line, Centre-Line, Exclusive-Line, as well as Homura and Homura Plus.
The Mazda2 Hybrid Prime-Line grade models now feature a comprehensive list of standard equipment for the 2026 model. New additions include heated front seats, a height-adjustable passenger seat, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, vanity mirrors for passenger and driver, electrically adjustable and auto-folding door mirrors in body colour, and a driver monitoring system. A wide range of safety systems are now also included as standard. The Prime-Line now rides on 15-inch alloy wheels and across Prime-, Centre- and Exclusive-Line grades, door mirror housings are now finished in body colour, replacing the previous black finish and contributing to a more cohesive exterior appearance.
These enhancements complement a broad standard specification that is carried over unchanged from the previous model. This includes remote central locking, electric front windows, automatic air-conditioning, a 9-inch multimedia display including an audio system with four speakers, a hands-free system with Bluetooth® and steering wheel control buttons activating voice control, DAB, wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, a USB-C connection, adaptive cruise control and LED rear combination lamps.
The 2026 Mazda2 Hybrid Centre-Line grade builds on the Prime-Line level specification with additional comfort and convenience features, including a leather-trimmed steering wheel, an upgraded audio system with six speakers and rain-sensing wipers.
The 2026 Exclusive-Line further enhances the offering with a smart keyless entry and start system, front and rear parking sensors with braking support, 16-inch alloy wheels, Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) and a heated steering wheel. Also new for the 2026 model year are full LED headlights and LED fog lights, further enhancing both visibility and design presence.
The Homura grade upgrades to 17-inch alloys, LED interior ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, wireless mobile phone charging, rear privacy glass, glossy black interior accents and sports seats. The interior design is further refined with gloss black finishes replacing previous silver elements across key areas such as the front console, door inner garnishes and steering wheel bezel, reinforcing a more modern and premium appearance.
To upgrade further from the Homura, Homura Plus models get all the above plus a 10.5-inch multimedia display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch colour head-up display, navigation system and a panoramic roof.
The self-charging Mazda2 Hybrid is a full series/parallel hybrid capable of operating in petrol and electric modes alone, as well as a combination of both. It delivers seamless acceleration and remarkably quiet operation - particularly in urban environments - whilst returning excellent fuel efficiency and low emissions.
The 1.5 litre full hybrid system features a petrol engine, a powerful electric motor, a generator, a high-performance 177.6 V lithium-ion battery, a power control unit, and a power-split device. The electric motor, generator and power-split device are all housed in a compact transmission casing comparable in size to a conventional gearbox.
Unlike a conventional belt-driven CVT transmission (Continuously Variable Transmission), the hybrid system delivers driving torque through a planetary gear-based power-split device, which combines and distributes power from the engine, electric motor and generator according to driving conditions and operational requirements.
Located beneath the rear passenger seats, the lithium-ion battery offers high energy density and improved current flow compared to nickel-metal hydride alternatives. It also enables more efficient energy recuperation and faster recharging during driving, enhancing the vehicle's EV performance - particularly in urban environments.
System power is provided by a 1490 cm³, three-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine developing 92 PS / 68 kW at 5,500 rpm and 120 Nm of torque at 3,600-4,800 rpm, and a permanent magnet, synchronous electric motor producing 59 kW and 141 Nm of torque. Together, the petrol engine and electric motor combine deliver a total system power of 116 PS / 85 kW.
Over the course of any journey, the hybrid system intelligently manages the interaction between petrol engine and electric motor, allowing each to operate independently or together to achieve the optimal balance between performance and fuel efficiency.
At rest, the engine switches off automatically to conserve fuel. Under operating conditions where the combustion engine would be less efficient, such as start-up or at low to mid-range speeds, the vehicle automatically runs in EV mode when sufficient battery charge is available.
In EV mode, the 2026 Mazda2 Hybrid enables smooth, near-silent driving with zero fuel consumption and no CO2 nor NOx emissions. In city settings, this allows for a high proportion of electric driving over extended periods.
As a result, 2026 Mazda2 Hybrid drivers can enjoy the benefits of all-electric driving without concerns about charging infrastructure, range or charging time.
Under normal driving conditions, power distribution is constantly adjusted between engine and electric motor to combine optimum performance with maximum fuel efficiency.
During deceleration and braking, the electric motor acts as a high-output generator, recovering kinetic energy and storing it in the battery.
Battery charge is continuously maintained via an engine-driven generator, eliminating the need for external charging.

The platform is designed to complement its full hybrid powertrain, combining a low centre of gravity with a highly rigid bodyshell to provide an engaging driving experience alongside a smooth and composed ride.
The high-rigidity bodyshell not only supports strong safety performance, but also offers precise handling through fast and accurate responses to steering inputs. At the same time, it enhances ride comfort and helps achieve low NVH (Noise Vibration and Harshness) levels.
Through the adoption of targeted body reinforcements, a highly rigid dashboard panel, and the extensive use of spot welds and structural adhesives, the Mazda2 Hybrid's platform delivers exceptional torsional rigidity.
Additional measures further enhance structural strength, including reinforced connections between the longitudinal beams and bumper structures, the integration of the upper front suspension mounts into the steering structure, and the use of ring-shaped structures in tkey areas such as the dash, central tunnel, rear body structure, wheel arches and pillars.
The Mazda2 Hybrid features a particularly low centre of gravity, achieved by locating heavier components as centrally and as low as possible within the vehicle. This reduces unwanted body roll and improves stability, particularly when cornering at higher speeds.
The well-balanced weight distribution - both front-to-rear and side-to-side - further reduces body roll, improves overall vehicle control and contributes to shorter stopping distances.
The Mazda2 Hybrid's suspension system features low-friction MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. The top of the front suspension struts also serves as the upper steering pivot, while optimised suspension geometry ensures precise alignment of dampers and springs, reducing vibration and enhancing overall ride quality.
The high-rigidity rear torsion beam helps minimise body roll during cornering and supports agile handling characteristics. At the same time, the carefully tuned suspension setup, including softer rear springs, enhances ride comfort, ensuring a balanced combination of responsiveness and refinement.
Significant effort has been invested in minimising noise and vibration levels, resulting in a quiet and refined cabin environment. Both platform and bodyshell are engineered to reduce noise intrusion, with a particular attention paid to sound insulation in the dashboard and floor areas. In addition, the extensive use of bodyshell sealing not only improves acoustic comfort but also contributes to overall structural rigidity.
The 2026 Mazda2 Hybrid is equipped with a full range of advanced and innovative driver-supporting safety technologies that deliver a high level of active safety performance.
These i-Activsense intelligent sensor-based systems aim to minimise the risk of accidents by helping the driver recognise hazards, maximise the range of conditions in which the vehicle can be operated safely, and reduce the severity of accidents when they cannot be avoided, for both occupants and other road users, including pedestrians.
Mazda2 Hybrid's i-Activsense package includes a Pre-Collision System (PCS) with vehicle detection, day and night pedestrian detection and daytime cyclist detection, as well as Intersection Turn Assist, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Keep Assist with steering support and Lane Trace Assist.
New for the 2026 model is the addition of Driver Monitoring System (DM) as standard for all grades, further enhancing both safety and driving comfort.
These systems are underpinned by the ultra-rigid bodyshell of the Mazda2 Hybrid, which provides a strong and lightweight protective safety cell around the driver and passengers. The Mazda2 Hybrid also features an SRS centre airbags, which help prevent contact between the driver and front passenger in the event of a side impact.
PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM (PCS) WITH ADVANCED SMART BRAKE SUPPORT (SBS)
The Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Advanced Smart Brake Support (SBS) uses a forward-facing camera to detect vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists ahead, helping avoid collisions or mitigate their severity. The system operates at speeds of up to 180 km/h and can also detect pedestrians both day and night (up to 80 km/h), as well as cyclists during daytime.
INTELLIGENT ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL AND TRAFFIC SIGN RECOGNITION
Adaptive Cruise Control operates across a wide speed range, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop if necessary and automatically resuming in stop-and-go traffic.
Working in conjunction with Traffic Sign Recognition, the system detects speed limits and can suggest adjustments to the set cruising speed.
If the vehicle unintentionally departs from its lane, the system alerts the driver and can apply steering input to help keep the vehicle centred. It can detect road markings as well as curbs and natural boundaries, ensuring functionality across a wide range of driving conditions.
BLIND SPOT MONITOR WITH REAR CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT
The Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) detects approaching vehicles from adjacent lanes and alerts the driver. Rear Cross Traffic Alert features an automatic braking function to help prevent collisions when reversing.
At low speeds, Proactive Driving Assist supports the driver by applying gentle deceleration when approaching slower vehicles or corners, contributing to smoother and safer driving.
By using an infrared camera, the system monitors the driver's condition, detecting signs of fatigue or distraction and issuing warnings where necessary. It also prepares the vehicle to respond more effectively in critical situations.
If the system detects that the driver has become unresponsive, it can bring the vehicle to a controlled stop, activate the hazard warning lights and unlock the doors.
Operating at speeds between 10 and 25 km/h, this system helps avoid collisions when making turning at intersections. It warns the driver if pedestrians are crossing or if there is a risk of turning into the path of oncoming traffic, and can apply emergency braking if required.
INTELLIGENT PARKING SENSORS WITH AUTOMATIC BRAKING
Ultrasonic sensors at the rear of the car detect obstacles when parking and can automatically apply the brakes to help avoid low-speed collisions.
Emergency Steering Assist helps the driver steer when there is a risk of collision with an obstacle or pedestrian ahead and they must swerve to avoid impact. The system provides additional steering torque to enhance vehicle stability and help the driver maintain control of the car.
