Land Rover Range Rover Electric
Range Rover, The Original Luxury SUV, is now available with electric propulsion, heralding a new era of enhanced refinement and capability. Built in Solihull - the home of Range Rover since 1970 - the first ever electric Range Rover marks a major milestone for the brand.
Quieter, more effortless, more responsive, and with more torque than any Range Rover to date, Range Rover Electric combines peerless design with exceptional refinement and breathtaking modernity. Electric propulsion enhances the Range Rover brand's inherent characteristics of effortless performance, timeless luxury and uncompromising capability, with a reduction in cabin noise.
Seamlessly integrating electric propulsion into a flexible architecture that was engineered for it from the outset, Range Rover Electric features twin permanent magnet 260kW electric motors generating up to 542hp and 627lb-ft of torque. The majority of Range Rover clients will be able to complete their typical daily journeys without the need to recharge thanks to a range of up to 333 miles (EPA).
New technologies enable precise control in all environments, including Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) which distributes rear torque from 0% to 100% to prevent loss of traction, and Integrated Traction Management (ITM) which controls motor speed within 50 milliseconds and manages slip up to 100 times quicker than an ICE vehicle equivalent.
Integrated Traction Management works in concert with the new Single Pedal mode, providing owners exceptional control to smoothly pull away up to 33-degrees with ease - a slope as steep as a black-diamond ski run - or complete a rolling climb ascend up to 45-degree slopes.
When it comes to charging away from home, using the fastest available 350kW rapid DC public chargers, Range Rover Electric can charge from 10-80%in around 22 minutes or add 125 miles in 10 minutes (EPA) when the vehicle is charging at its maximum charge rate.
The first ever electric Range Rover is powered by a usable 118.5kWh lithium-ion double-stack battery consisting of 344 prismatic cells delivering outstanding energy density. The advanced 800-volt architecture provides fast, adaptable split-charging capability.
Twin permanent magnet 260kW electric motors produce 20% more torque than other motors of the same size and feature silicon carbide semiconductors which enable remarkable switching speeds measured in microseconds, balancing efficiency with exceptional performance on all surfaces.
Range Rover Electric will complete 0-60mph in as little as 4.3 seconds, with power enabling overtaking speeds from 50-75mph in as little as 2.7 seconds.
Away from the vehicle, clients can remain connected to their Range Rover Electric via the new Range Rover App. With access to a suite of useful functions in the palm of their hand, clients can initiate cabin purification or the heated steering wheel, check their vehicle is locked, its live location and look at the current charge status and predicted driving range.
The app also provides the ability to select and schedule charging when the vehicle is parked and plugged in - for example at home - to help make the most of lower charging rates.
In North America clients get access to the Tesla Supercharger network, with built-in NACS compatibility. At home, an elegant new optional Range Rover home charger ensures every journey begins with a full charge.
Range Rover Electric has undergone exhaustive virtual and physical global testing and development to ensure a customary Range Rover experience. Tested in -40°F temperatures in Arjeplog, Sweden, the heat of the Dubai desert and JLR's own Eastnor Castle facility in the UK, Range Rover Electric has completed over 900,000 miles and over a quarter of a million hours of testing in the virtual and physical worlds.
New technologies maximize its electric potential - including innovative range prediction features and advanced ThermAssistTM heat management system which optimizes driving range, charging speeds, battery longevity and performance in extreme temperatures, adding up to 25 miles of range and a 40% reduction of heating energy use. Over 300 patent applications have been filed for Range Rover Electric - the most for a single vehicle in the brand's history.
To help maximize the safety and quality of the battery, JLR's new battery testing laboratory subjects live batteries to extreme multi-axis vibration and shock testing in -40°F to +194°F. This combined with the high strength aluminum enclosure, means Range Rover Electric is built to withstand high impact knocks and jolts, while advanced safety features exceed industry standards.
For serviceability and maintenance, each Range Rover Electric comes with a Battery Digital Twin which provides over 900 diagnostic data points and coupled with JLR's leading Software Over the Air capability, allows Range Rover to proactively maintain clients' vehicles. Range Rover Electric vehicle's advanced propulsion comes with an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty.
To support production of Range Rover Electric, JLR has transformed its Solihull manufacturing facility, combining advanced manufacturing, digital technology and a major investment in electrification skills. Powering this transformation, 9,000 manufacturing employees in Solihull have now been upskilled for electrification, with a further 1,500 colleagues trained across JLR's wider West Midlands footprint.
