BAIC Beijing B40 Concept
The production-ready version of highly praised B40 concept car that first appeared at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show, debuted only 2 years later, in 2010.
The production-ready B40 retains the overall styling and most of the design details from the concept car. It still carry out with a body-on-frame, three-door, and an open body design. However, the specific structural functions are more practical - like halogen headlights andd more practical door hinges. The thicker B-pillar is the most significant difference in exterior appearance between the mass-produced B40 and the concept car.
The fully open body allows for easy disassembly or transformation of the roof, doors, windshield, wheel arches, and bumpers. A high-strength steel roll cage with strong B pillar design provide excellent protection for the occupants.
The B40 released in 2010 was still just a prototype and did not reach the level of being market-ready. There were three prototype cars responsible for external display. Among them, the burgundy B40 was in standard condition; an orange B40 was equipped with a panoramic sunroof design, which was more fashionable; another matte green B40 was modified to be more rugged-removing the enntire roof, replacing it with windowless doors, and adding a roof rack and top lights. The three show cars fully demonstrated the convenient modification characteristics and strong expansion potential of the B40 body.
