Renault Niagara
Niagara marks a new milestone in Renault's international offensive. Developed for Latin American markets, this new pick-up combines the comfort and technology of an SUV with the robust strength and functional qualities of a pick-up. It is part of the brand's ambition to launch 14 new models on international markets outside Europe by 2030.
Renault is accelerating the pace of expansion outside Europe
With Niagara, Renault is continuing to expand into one of its most strategic markets. The first model to emerge from the futuREady plan, Niagara marks the start of a new phase in the brand's international offensive. Between now and 2030, Renault plans to launch 14 new models outside Europe in order to consolidate its position as the world's leading French car brand. Building on the significant development potential offered by international markets, Renault is seeking to accelerate both its growth and its electrification. The goal for 2030 is to generate half of its sales outside Europe, while increasing the proportion of electric and hybrid powertrains to 50% of the mix on these markets.
Niagara, the first vehicle in the futuREady production offensive outside Europe
Alongside Kardian and Boreal, Niagara is part of the renewal of Renault's product range outside Europe, and more particularly in Latin America. This strategy is based on the development of vehicles incorporating the brand's new DNA and technologies. Based on the RGMP pick-up platform, it is specifically designed to meet the needs of customers in Latin America.
A pick-up truck designed to meet new needs
Renault Niagara marks a major renewal in the pick-up segment. It is designed to appeal to a wider base of customers looking for a vehicle not only for everyday use, but also for leisure or business-related activities.
It will support the far-reaching changes taking place in the Latin American market. While pick-up trucks are still strongly associated with work-related activities, they are gradually advancing into more diverse areas of use. They are now used mainly as personal vehicles, while maintaining the practical qualities that have fuelled their success in recent decades. Reflecting this trend, customers are looking for greater comfort, in-car technology and perceived quality, without compromising on load capacity and off-road capabilities.
The Latin American market: a strategic region
Latin America is currently one of the most dynamic markets for pick-ups. In several countries around this region, pick-ups account for a significant proportion of MPV sales, addressing a particularly wide range of uses.
Niagara's three main target markets are Brazil, Argentina and Colombia. These markets alone account for the bulk of potential sales. Alongside these three markets, Renault Niagara will also be imported to a number of other Latin American countries at a later date.
"Niagara is the first pillar of the futuREady strategy, implementing our goal of launching 14 new models on international markets by 2030. The RGMP pick-up platform will also provide the basis for a hybrid powertrain at a later date. This will also contribute to our ambition to include 50% of electrified models in our international range by 2030. Designed, engineered and built entirely in Latin America, Niagara carries the DNA of the Renault brand: bold, robust styling; a comfortable interior with ingenious storage solutions; and in-car technology worthy of an SUV, including OpenR link with Google built-in. I would like to thank the entire Renault team in Latin America for their collective commitment to this inspiring project." Fabrice Cambolive, Chief Growth Officer Renault Group, CEO Renault Brand
Bold design and a statement of robust strength
Renault Niagara is redefining pick-up cues, fusing the design of an SUV with the practical qualities of a vehicle designed for a wide range of uses. Its strong personality is expressed in its contemporary, robust and high-tech design. This is a vehicle at home in the city as well as on the most challenging terrain.
Renault Niagara has a strong sense of identity. The front end reflects the design language of large pick-ups, with an upright grille and a high bonnet of muscular lines, blending seamlessly into the front wings, reinforcing the impression of robust strength and well-balanced proportions. In the centre of the large black grille, the name "Renault'" appears in capital letters, underlining the identity of Niagara as part of the brand's new international generation. The name "Renault" features a pixelated chrome finish.
The full-LED headlamps with their gloss black surrounds include a welcome sequence, while the daytime running lights feature a specific graphic signature.
The lower section of the bumper with the LED fog lights, emphasises the rugged character of Niagara. Body protection in Alliance Black is combined with a front skid plate inspired by the world of off-roading, underlining the vehicle's all-terrain capabilities while protecting the parts most exposed when it leaves the tarmac.
Renault Niagara is 4.94m long (4,91m long for the 4x2 version) and 1.72m tall, with generous proportions that showcase its character. Viewed in profile, the pronounced shoulders, strong wheel arches, taut lines and 17- or 18-inch wheels - depending on the version - all contribute to the powerful body style and robust looks of a vehicle designed to go anywhere.
Renault placed particular emphasis on the integration of the cab and load bed to create a more harmonious body style with seamlessly connected parts. This sense of continuity is underlined by the rear pillar, a key design feature. The rear door handles are integrated with the pillar, a styling choice that accentuates the flowing lines.
At the rear, the graphics and design of the tailgate also reflect the emphasis on contemporary styling. All these features together create a consistent visual identity that maintains the conventional styling cues of the pick-up. For example, the name "Niagara" is stamped directly into the metal of the tailgate, while the black cross strip is extended by the lights at either end, visually widening the vehicle and giving it a stronger stance.
At the same time, the roof bars contribute to the functionality and style of the vehicle. They emphasise its outdoor, lifestyle mindset, while meeting the practical needs of users. Renault Niagara can also be fitted with restyled roll bars. These are not solely for aesthetic purposes; they also let users to position and secure bulky items.
"The Niagara project is all about versatility. It's a vehicle that goes beyond the traditional idea of a workhorse pick-up. It also seeks to be a lifestyle, upmarket vehicle. True to brand DNA, Niagara offers outstanding space at the rear, along with ingenious storage solutions in the centre console and behind the rear seats: every part of the interior has been optimised. The cabin design is particularly well thought-out, with the perceived quality and comfort of an SUV." Laurens van den Acker, Chief Design Officer, Renault Group
