The all-new Mazda CX-5 is launched with a newly optimised 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv G petrol engine coupled with a 24V Mazda M Hybrid mild-hybrid system. This combination delivers a more efficient and responsive engine and replaces the 2.0-litre unit of the previous model. This updated engine, first introduced in the 2025 Mazda3 and CX-30, is designed to improve everyday performance and responsiveness, while meeting all current emissions and efficiency standards.

Developed at Mazda's global headquarters in Hiroshima and fine-tuned for European driving conditions at the brand's R&D centre in Oberursel, Germany, the 141ps engine's larger displacement delivers a more assured driving experience, especially at low and mid-range engine speeds up to 4,000rpm. With 238Nm of torque, compared to the outgoing 2.0-litre e-Skyactiv G, torque delivery below 4,500rpm is improved by 8-19 per cent depending on load and driving conditions. The result is more confident acceleration and smoother progress, particularly on urban and mixed-speed roads.

A normally aspirated layout has been retained to ensure a linear throttle response and the ideal balance between responsiveness and efficiency. This is achieved by precisely controlling the catalyst temperature using the throttle and sequential valve timing (Dual S-VT) for exacting control of the combustion process. To further reduce fuel consumption in real-world driving without compromising drivability or refinement, the engine incorporates a cylinder deactivation system that shuts down two of the four cylinders under low-load conditions. All versions of the all-new Mazda CX-5 are matched to a recalibrated six-speed automatic transmission with revised shift mapping and updated hydraulic torque converter control. Not only does Mazda M Hybrid support lower emissions but it also improves drivability, smoothing transitions when starting, accelerating or slowing down. By using electric torque to substitute engine torque when needed, the system achieves the same acceleration with less fuel. The all-new Mazda CX-5 features updates to the chassis and suspension with softer springs, re-sized anti-roll bars and carefully tuned dampers to better absorb road imperfections. Additionally, rebound damping has been increased front and rear to create better control at lower damper piston speeds. This provides better stability in cornering, while still ensuring a stable and smooth ride. Smart Brake Support (SBS), with sensors that monitor upcoming traffic conditions and auto-brake to help avoid or mitigate collisions, has been updated to detect the end of traffic jams earlier. It now also supports low-speed manoeuvring by limiting the engine output to assist when parking in tight spaces.

Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) enhances situational awareness by alerting the driver to pedestrians, vehicles and bicycles approaching from behind in adjacent lanes at speeds of 18.6mph or below. The system now actively monitors for vehicles and bicycles when turning right across traffic, for safer turning manoeuvres.

The Driver Emergency Assist (DEA) introduces a new level of active safety to the all-new Mazda CX-5, complementing theDriver Monitoring (DM), which continuously monitors driver focus and triggers an alert if signs of fatigue are detected. If the system detects that the driver fails to respond, such as in the case of a medical emergency, DEA additionally intervenes by initiating controlled braking and activating the hazard lights to bring the vehicle to a stop.

When the accelerator is released, the system automatically provides light braking support depending on the driving context, such as approaching a bend or a slower-moving vehicle ahead. All of which means the driver has far fewer pedal adjustments to worry about, resulting in a more relaxed and confident driving experience.

Standard on Exclusive-Line and Homura models the 360° View Monitor (360 VM) helps the driver avoid obstacles and enhance spatial awareness, the system provides real-time 3D graphics of the vehicle's immediate surroundings. This includes a transparent display that offers a virtual see-through view of the area in front of the vehicle during low-speed manoeuvring, as well as mirror-down and folded mirror views for added visibility. When stationary, an overhead graphic further supports precise vehicle placement and parking.

All of these systems work in unison to help the driver avoid accidents and remain aware of the vehicle's surroundings. The full ADAS suite in the all-new Mazda CX-5 reflects Mazda's ongoing commitment to advancing safety technologies with intuitive, reliable, and supportive solutions under real-world conditions. And reflected in the five-star NCAP rating, should the worse happen, the CX-5's passive safety crash test performance brings even further reassurance.

To date, the CX-5 has been sold in more than 100 countries and regions worldwide with its enduring popularity meaning that in 2025 it was Mazda's global best-seller, as well as being the biggest seller in the UK. Since production began at Hiroshima's Ujina Plant Number 2 in 2011, Mazda expanded the CX-5's manufacturing footprint to Ujina Plant Number 1, Hofu Plant in Yamaguchi Prefecture and facilities in China for domestic sales. Local assembly also took place in Malaysia and Vietnam, helping the CX-5 grow into Mazda's global best seller.

The first-generation Mazda CX-5 made its world premiere at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, was named Japan Car of the Year in 2012 and by April 2015 had reached one million units of production. The second-generation made its debut at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show and from 2018 onwards the CX-5 has claimed the title of Mazda's global best-selling car each year.

Announced early in 2026, Mazda Motor Corporation revealed that cumulative global production and sales of the Mazda CX-5 passed five-million units at the end of 2025. The milestone means the CX-5 is the third Mazda model surpass five-million sales - the others being the Mazda 323 and the Mazda3 - but the CX-5 achieved that milestone quicker over a shorter time on sale.

Launched in the UK in 2012, the original CX-5 was the first production car to feature both Mazda's Kodo Soul of Motion design philosophy and Skyactiv engine technology. An instant sales success, which was praised by media and customers alike for its combination of driver appeal, practicality and style, the Mazda CX-5 was a landmark car in Mazda's history. After a substantial update in 2015, the second-generation CX-5 arrived in the UK in 2017, while another update was implemented in 2022. Total CX-5 sales in the UK have passed 105,073 as of the end of 2025. The all-new Mazda CX-5 is available to order from 1st April 2026.
