As a concept car defining Buicks vision for next-generation MPVs Buick OMPV represents a thorough reinvention of automotive philosophy, making its global debut at Shanghai PATAC technical automotive center in September 2024. At 2025 Shanghai auto show, it appeared as the MPV precursor under Buick NEV sub-brand - "Electra". Built on the innovative "Xiaoyao" architecture, it envisions the future of Buick's premium new energy MPVs.
Designed for a new generation pursuing a sustainable and refined lifestyle, the all-new Buick GL8 Concept imagines modern mobility as a personalized, private, mobility space. Inspired by the sculptural design language of the Buick Electra, the GL8 Concept features a bold, flowing exterior defined by aerodynamic surfaces and a powerful stance. 5267mm long, 2000mm wide, and 1835mm tall, with a 3160mm wheelbase - the GL8 concept offers class-leading interior space.
The golden accent line sweeps from the windows to the floating rear spoiler, while a two-tone body and roof design create a strong visual identity. Seamless surfacing, zero-step glass and body design, low-drag wheels, and hidden mirrors elevate both aesthetics and performance through refined aerodynamic integration.
At the heart of the design is Buick's forward-thinking "Hidden Technology" philosophy. Translucent body-colored headlamps that emit a soft glow as if from metallic skin. The sculpted "Wing Lights" at the rear feature a tiered optical structure that shifts with your viewing angle, while an infinity-mirror badge that hovers like a time-space tunnel.
Inside, the GL8 Concept redefines spatial logic with aircraft-inspired cabin standards-transforming traditional MPV expectations into a new era of premium, private mobility. It's more than a concept; it's a brand new direction for the Buick brand.
The metallic photochromic paint is tailored for "Electra", inspired by the fusion of nature and futurism. It reveals remarkably rich yet harmonious layered visual effect under varying lighting conditions. At stillness, it displays a translucent pale green metallic sheen, creating a fresh yet poised first impression. At sunlight, delicate golden highlights emerge across its surface, make it lithe, ethereal yet luxurious. With angle shift, you can capture the subtle blue halos shining hazily, evoking a sense of motion and vitality.
