BAIC Beijing BJ40
The Beijing BJ40 made its debut on December 28th, 2013, as a compact off-road vehicle, heralding a new era in the Chinese automobile market. It is the production version of B40 concept that first appeared at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show, and 2010 B40 show cars, sharing similar 3-door open body design. The BJ40 represents the first all-new design production vehicle of the Beijing brand for the 21st century. Its development and testing took BAIC engineers over six years to complete.
With a ground clearance of over 210 mm, an approach angle of 37°, a departure angle of 33°, and a vertical angle of 24°, the BJ40 is designed to tackle the most challenging off-road terrains.
The BJ40's iconic squared body on frame design is reminiscent of the classic Beijing 212 off-road vehicle, which played a significant role in both the Chinese military and civilian automobile markets since the 1960s. The fully open body allows for easy disassembly or transformation of the roof, doors, windshield, wheel arches, and bumpers. A high-strength steel roll cage with strong B pillar design provide excellent protection for the occupants.
The five-block grille, tri-circle headlamp, and L-shaped belt line are distinctive features that identify the Beijing brand.
The BJ40 features a clean and functional interior design. Pure mechanical switches and components replace most electronic equipment, enhancing reliability. Standard equipment includes a mechanical compass and declinometer. The interior materials are fully waterproofed for easy cleaning. Side air vents allow for direct heating or cooling of drink cans.
