Saab Automobile was a Swedish carmaker based in Trollhättan whose roots lay in the Saab AB aerospace group; car production began in 1945 and the first model, the Saab 92, arrived in 1949. The brand was known for turbocharged engines, a strong emphasis on safety and aviation-influenced design, its most successful model being the Saab 900. It was owned by General Motors from 1989 to 2010, then briefly by Spyker and finally by NEVS. The company filed for bankruptcy in December 2011 and car production ended, with rights to the Saab car brand lost in 2014.
