Rover was a British car manufacturer from Coventry; the company was established in 1878 and began building cars in 1904. Its well-known products include the off-road Land Rover (1948), the Range Rover (1970) and the P4, P5 and P6 saloons. It passed through the Leyland and British Leyland groups and later formed the Rover Group. In 2000 BMW broke up the marque; passenger cars were then made by MG Rover, which collapsed in 2005. The now-dormant Rover trademark today belongs to Jaguar Land Rover.
