Lotus is a British carmaker founded in 1952 by Colin Chapman in Hethel, Norfolk. It became known for lightweight sports cars built around the principle of minimising weight (Seven, Elan, Esprit, Elise) and for a rich racing history — the Team Lotus works team won seven Formula One world championships. Since 2017 the brand has been majority-owned by the Chinese group Geely. The company is active and is shifting to electric cars such as the Evija, Eletre and Emeya.
