Isuzu Motors is a Japanese vehicle manufacturer based in Tokyo, with origins dating back to 1916–1918; the Isuzu name (after the Isuzu River) appeared in 1934 and the present company dates from 1937. Isuzu focuses mainly on commercial vehicles — trucks, buses and diesel engines — and on pickups, notably the D-Max produced since 2002. It has withdrawn from passenger-car production in most markets. The company is active and ranks among the world's major truck makers.
