Daewoo Motors was a South Korean carmaker. It grew out of a manufacturer with roots in 1937, but only began operating under the Daewoo Motors name in 1982, after the business was taken over by the Daewoo Group. It built small and mid-size passenger cars, often derived from General Motors models. Following financial trouble, GM bought most of its assets in 2002; the firm was renamed GM Korea and in 2011 the Daewoo brand was replaced by Chevrolet.
