Volvo is a Swedish carmaker based in Gothenburg, founded on 14 April 1927 by Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson, originally as a subsidiary of the bearing manufacturer SKF. The brand has long defined itself through a focus on safety, giving the world the three-point seatbelt, among other things. Its passenger-car arm, Volvo Cars, has been owned by China's Geely group since 2010 (and stock-listed since 2021) and is separate from the AB Volvo group that makes trucks and buses.
