Suzuki is a Japanese maker of cars and motorcycles based in Hamamatsu, founded in 1909 by Michio Suzuki, originally as a manufacturer of weaving looms. It began building cars in 1955 with the Suzulight and became known for small and city cars, including Japan's kei class. Well-known models include the Swift, Alto, Wagon R and the Jimny off-roader, and it holds a very strong position in India through Maruti Suzuki. The brand remains active, though it withdrew from the US market in 2012.
