SEAT is a Spanish automaker founded in 1950 (full name Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo), today based in Martorell near Barcelona. It has been controlled by the Volkswagen Group since 1986 and has been a wholly owned subsidiary since 1990. Historically important cars include the popular SEAT 600, while modern models include the Ibiza, Leon, Toledo and Altea. In 2018 the company spun off Cupra as a performance brand. SEAT is one of Europe's leading manufacturers and remains active.
