Pontiac was an American car brand owned by General Motors, founded in 1926 and named after the city of Pontiac, Michigan. It was positioned as GM's affordable, performance-flavoured division aimed at a broad audience. Its best-known models include the GTO muscle car, the Firebird and the Trans Am. GM wound the brand down during the financial crisis — production ended in 2009 and the marque was discontinued in 2010.
