Holden was an Australian car manufacturer whose roots trace back to a saddlery founded in 1856; the first Holden-badged car appeared in 1948. It had been a subsidiary of General Motors since 1931. Holden became known for large rear-wheel-drive cars, above all the Commodore and the Ute pickup. GM wound the brand down — Australian manufacturing ended in 2017 and the marque was retired at the end of 2020.
